Frequently Asked Questions
Below are some questions that we hear often. If you do not see what you are looking for here, please feel free to contact us and we will be happy to assist you.
Q: How does having MATERI-ALL fix my ripped
leather seat or vinyl door panel help conserve our natural
resources?
A: By helping you to reduce waste!
"Reduce, Reuse, Recycle." Repairing or refurbishing an item such as a car or boat's vinyl seat cover
whenever possible rather
than replacing it with a new seat cover helps to cut down on the
amount of garbage that we lay to waste. The U.S. EPA (Environmental
Protection Agency) reports the United States alone produces
approximately 220 million tons of garbage each year! That is quite a
burden for our planet when you also consider all the fumes and
chemical waste produced from the manufacturing process of new
materials. By having
damaged items fixed you are doing your part to improve tomorrow.

you can do!
Q: How long does it take to make a repair?
A: The average repair, from start to finish, will take about an hour. This of course will vary due to many circumstances; size of repair, weather conditions (if working outside) etc. The repair compounds require 48 hours to cure to their maximum strength capabilities but will be ready to put back into service as soon as the repair is complete. Care must be exercised during that time so as not to damage the repair before it is completely cured.
Q: Is this repair permanent?
A: Absolutely! The compounds used in our repair
process actually bond themselves to the leather or vinyl. They
remain soft and flexible to retain the natural feel and flexibility
of the material. Once repaired, your item will provide the same
service as it was designed to do. As with any type of repair, the
conditions governing the application of the repair determine the
quality achieved.
Q: Are these chemicals hazardous?
A: No. All of the chemicals we use are either
water based or alcohol based. There are no solvents or hazardous
materials present. All products are environmentally friendly, and
safe to use. There are no harsh odors or vapors to cause you concern
or discomfort. These materials may be safely used indoors.
Although we use only the safest products in the industry, allergic
reactions can occur. If you have respiratory or other health
concerns, please contact us and one of our technical experts will be
happy to answer any questions. MSDS sheets are available on
request.
Q: Will the Color Coats rub off onto clothing?
A: No! The Color Coats and Dyes we use are formulated to actually perform better and be stronger than the original finish. Even if the finish has gotten wet from water or other liquids, the color will remain fixed and permanent. Once completely cured (within 48 hours) these color coats are tougher than the original finish and will not be easily removed. When completely dry, if you sit on the new finish with white slacks, the clothing will still be white when you stand.
Q: Are your services expensive? How much do they cost?
A: Our services are much less than the cost of replacing or reupholstering the item. We aim to be your practical and affordable material repair and restoration resource.
